Author's Note: This fic takes place about a year before Lisa met Bert. Oh, btw, I have a siamese cat named Bob. :) -------- "Lisa's First Love" by Archthames -------- Wednesday: Lisa looked in the mirror for what seemed like an eternity, then decided to wear a dress to school. She figured it would be the best way to attract John's attention. She looked herself over. She started to brush her tail for the third time today, then figured it was enough. after looking at the clock, she realised that she needed to leave for school. She met Bentley in the hall. He was carrying his laptop to school. "What a nerd", she thought. Her friends met up with her in her driveway. "Morning, Lisa" said a short aardvark wearing glasses. "Oh, morning, Jessie. Good morning, Steph, " said Lisa to a cat about her height. "...morning, oh sorry, I ain't a morning person." said Steph. "Yeah, we know. You always gripe about having to get up early for school, and on weekends, we never see you before noon." Lisa and Jessie joked. "What's with the dress, today Lis," asked Jessie. "I want John to notice me, " said Lisa, blushing. "You hoping he'll ask you to the dance?" said Steph. "Well....." Lisa trailed off. The three girls started to giggle. When they got to school, Lisa started looking around. She didn't see John, but Bob, a siamese looking cat, walked up to her. "Hey, nice dress Lisa. Would you like to go to the dance with me on Friday" He said. Steph and Jessie started to giggle, a bit. "No, I was wondering where John is, though." said Lisa nervously. "Oh, I thought I saw him headin over to the gym," said Bob. "Thanks, Bob" said Lisa. Lisa started walking towards the gym, and Steph and Jessie bade her good luck. When Lisa walked into the gym, she nervously started to smooth down her tail, and looked around. She spotted John talking to one of the cheerleaders, and started to walk over to him. ".....and that's how to convert miles per hour to feet per second" John was saying as Lisa walked up. "Ok, I thought it was something like that, but I wasn't sure. Thanks, John" said the cheerleader, a fox. "Hi, Lisa. Nice dress. Are you trying to impress someone?" Inquired John. "Well, actually......." stammered Lisa, "wouldyouliketogotothedancewithme" she finished nervously. "Say what" said John. "Would you like to go to the dance with me" said Lisa, even more nervously. "Sure. Do you need me to pick you up, or do you have a ride to the dance" asked John. "Ummmm, can you pick me up?" asked Lisa. "Sure can. How's 6pm for ya" said John. "Great" said Lisa. The bell rang. John and Lisa started for their first classes. John had Chemistry, whereas Lisa had English first period. They said goodbye for now, and started walking their seperate ways. "Well, did he ask you" said Steph as Lisa entered the classroom. "No, I asked him. He said yes, and he'll pick me up at 6." said Lisa. "Ya know, the guys are s'possed to ask the girls" murmured Jessie. "Yeah, I know, but I was scared. I was thinking 'what if he doesn't ask me' " said Lisa. Right then, the teacher walked in. He told everone to take their seats, and that today was when they'd begin their poetry appreciation. (Mass Groan) So, when class was over, the girls swore off poetry for the rest of thier lives. "Honestly, I'll bet Shakespeare cared less about his poems than Mr Walters," complained Jessie. "Yeah, really." said Lisa. "What an old grouch" said Steph. They walked towards their second class and Lisa spotted John in the crowded hallway. A couple of guys were roughing him up a bit. one of them had grabbed him by the tail, and started to drag him down the hall. (I love doing this in fics -AT) Lisa walked over, and interveened. "Leave him alone," she said. "Or what, little girl, said an enormous dog with fists like bricks. "Just leave him alone" Lisa said again. They continued to beat him about the head for a bit. Lisa kicked the big guy behind his left knee, and he fell. He got up, and punched Lisa in the nose. Her friends ran over to help. They started to hit they guy with their bookbags, and he made an egress. "John, are you ok," said Lisa. "Yeah, They wanted my lunch money. I guess for steroids." quipped John. "I don't think they needed it. Lisa, you're bleeding," said Steph. "Let's go to the nurse's office" said Lisa to John. The two of them walked to the nurse's office, whilst Steph and Jessie went to class. "John and I got in a fight, and where here to get our wounds tended," said lisa to the nurse. "You two got in a fight, and you're in here together," said the nurse in a disbelievable tone. "Well, actually, a couple guys tried to take my lunch money, and Lisa, along with a couple of her friends, fended them off," said John. "Oh," said the nurse. As she tended to their wounds, John realised he had a growing respect for Lisa and how she handle the situation. Lisa, on the other hand was a nervous wreck. When they left the nurse's office, John asked if he could have her phone number. She gave it to him, and they walked to thier respective classes. "Since Ms Raccoon decided to come into my class a bit late, I bet she can tell us more about Alfered Packer," Said the history teacher. "Oh, ummmm, Wasn't he the only person in the US to be tried and convicted of canabalism, "said Lisa. "Yes, and you may take a seat," said the teacher. When class was over, her friends and her looked for John. He was sitting on a bench in the hall with his arm around another girl. "Oh, hey Lisa. Joanna here was looking for you. So, you have a game tomorrow, eh? I'll be there," said John. "Hey, Lisa. John's been asking alot of us girls about you. I think he has a crush on you," Joanna whispered. "The feeling's mutual," whispered Lisa. The rest of the day went pretty normally. The classes came and went, and Lisa kept thinking about the dance. The had almost completely forgotten about the basketball game she was goin to play in tomorrow night. Usually they play on Fridays, but the game was moved back because of the dance. Thursday: She decided to wear jeans and a t-shirt today. She didn't obsess with combing her tail like she did yesterday. She just picked out the loose hairs, and went to school. All day she couldn't wait for the dance tomorrow, but she was anxious about the game today. She had to try hard to concentrate on the game today. The whole day was a blur. The guys who tried to mug John yesterday tried again today, but walked off in a huff when they saw her and her friends. They told John that he would rather hide behind some dames rather than face them, but he knew they were just trying to get under his skin. It had to have been the longest basketball game in history. at least, That's what Lisa thought. They barely won, but Lisa scored the winning basket, and she saw John in the stands watchng her. He ran onto the court, and held her up above the other players. She realised she was in love with him, and that he truly loved her. Friday: The day of the dance. Her morning was fairly routine: get dressed, eat breakfast, insult Bentley, and walk to school. Her friends could barely match her pace - she was walking like she was afraid the school might burn down. (and that would be a bad thing) :) She just couldn't wait for tonight. Her and John ate lunch together, sat on the bench in the hall together, and waited for the last bell together. Her friends weren't angry - just a bit jealous. She got a ride home from school so she could get ready faster. When she got home, her parents were a bit upset, but she barely noticed. She spent the next couple of hours getting ready for the dance. She took a shower, trimmed her tail a bit, and put her dress on. she kept pacing the den, waiting for John to pick her up. When she heard a car pull in, she stopped pacing, and looked out the window. John was just getting out of an old beat-up station wagon. When he came o the door, several things came into her head. 'Hey, he's driving a station wagon,' 'what an ugly car,' 'he's probably saving up to get a nicer car,' and who cares, he's a nice guy, and i'm head over heels for him.' "Hello, John. You look great," she said. "You are more beautiful than any model I've ever seen," he replied. She blushed. Her parents came in, and greeted him. "Hello, you must be John. I'm George, and this is Nichole. Oh, the one on the computer is Bentley. Lisa's been telling us all about you. It's great to meet you," said George. "Hello, Mr Raccoon, Hello Mrs Raccoon, Hello Bentley. I deny everything that she's told you," John said warmly. They family chuckled. "Well, it's nice to meet y'all, and I hope to seen you again later. I'll have her home by 10. is that ok,' asked John. "10's fine. Her curfew's 11, though," said George. "Oh, ok, I'll have her home by then," said John. They walked to his car. They got in, and started to pull away. Nichole asked George if they should tell her when she gets home, and he agreed. "I've been working odd jobs to buy a car, and I saw this one. I know, it's now exactly a wonderful car, in fact I think it's the ugliest thing I've ever seen, but it runs, and I still have some money saved up to get a different car," said John. "Well, I was wondering about that," said lisa. When they got to the dance, there was streamers everywhere. They noticed that there was goin to be a live band playing. It was a local group that they hadn't heard of. He picked a rose from a nearby bush, and gave it to her. She thanked him, and they went into the building. While the band was playing, they started to dance. He was one hell of a good dancer. they looked like a couple of pros cutting up the rug. they danced until she thought they's pass out. it was the best time she'd ever had in her life. Later that night - at about 10:45, she got home. Her parents were sitting in the den watching television, and they appeared to be waiting on her. She thought her curfew was at 11:00. Her and John said goodnight. "Lisa, we need to talk to you," her dad began. "We didn't do anything. We just danced, and I thought you said I could stay out till 11. i got home before 11 didn't ," Lisa said defensively. "No, it's not about that. We're proud of you, and all. It's just, we have some bad news," George said. "About what," said Lisa, concerned. "You father lost his job, and we have to be out of the house by Sunday," Nichole said. "What," Lisa blurted. "They fired me, and we have to move starting now," said George sadly. "Is that why half the kitchen is in boxes, I thought we were having a yard sale or something," said Lisa. "I'm sorry Lisa," said Nichole. Lisa ran upstairs, sobbing. 'Why does this have to happen. I thought everything was going perfectly.' Was the last thought she had before falling asleep. The next morning, she awoke, and was surprised to find she was still in her dress. she changed, and came downstairs. Then she remembered why she slept in her dress. Most of the furniture was gone in the den. They had put it on a moving truck. Two guys were helping her dad load the truck. "Where are we moving to," she asked. "The Evergreen Forest," replied Nichole. "Well, that's about 1000 miles away," exclaimed Lisa. "Yeah, but your Uncle Ralph lives there, and Mr Knox has a TV studio that your father could work at. He's been accepted to work there anyway." said Nichole. "Will I ever see my friends again. What about John," Lisa asked, panicked. "You could write them, call them, maybe get a job and take trips back here," said Nichole. Lisa walked over to the phone and called all of her friends, including John. They all came over. They helped her family load up their belongings, and said their goodbyes. Lisa gave John a kiss, and got in the car with her family. They started to drive to The Evergreen Forest. She didn't think she'd ever see her friends again. -FIN- Ok, I'll admit, it's a bit of a tear -jerker, but I like to try new things. I was real close to doing a +/- evil fic, but changed my mind. I really do have a cat named Bob - He was my insparation for the character, however, I have a psycho cat. Bob in this fic is rather nice. -archthames 1:14 AM 10/13/2002 Oooh, can't forget about the song: Let's Build a Snowman (Part 2) Lyrics by: Trey Parker from "Cannibal: The Musical" Let's build a snowman!
